I draw on a variety of approaches in my work, catered to the needs and desires of my clients. Here are some basic details about the primary modalities I draw on.
Psychodynamic: Psychodynamic approaches are largely about exploring the forces - unconscious and conscious - that shape our lives. Expanding on psychoanalysis, they emphasize what unfolds within the therapeutic relationship as a window into our ways of relating to ourselves, one another, and the world. In doing so, they enable us to gain insight about and 'work through' the patterns which restrict us and keep us stuck.
Person-centered: Person-centered modalities are all about creating a mutual and supportive relational space which effectively empower you to come to a greater understanding of yourself and actualize into expansive ways of being. Key to this approach are a centering of the client's needs and desires, a mutual relationship where the therapist's 'authority' is de-emphasized, and a focus on relational depth which fosters growth and exploration.
Liberation Psychology: Drawing on the theories of anti-colonial thinkers like Ignacio Martin-Baro, Paolo Freire, and Frantz Fanon, Liberation Psychology offers a critical approach which goes beyond the reductionism characteristic of much of 'Western' psychology, exploring how we are fundamentally shaped as personal, social, and political beings, drawing connections between each to offer an emancipatory vision of psychological work.
Queer Therapy: Growing from decades of work across queer theory and philosophy, Queer Therapy approaches are focused on creating affirmative, non-normative, and anti-oppressive spaces which enable us to deeply explore ourselves and our relationships to others and the world. Part of this often involves deconstructing rigid social constructs around gender, sexuality, race, and identity which might restrict us.

I completed my professional training as a psychotherapist at the University of Edinburgh in 2025, studying a blend of psychodynamic and person-centered approaches. During this time, I accrued over 200 hours of supervised practice with diverse communities through both LGBT Health and Hope Park Counselling. In addition to this, I have over six years of experience in therapy and therapy-adjacent roles across the private and non-profit sectors. I am currently undergoing a Doctorate in Psychotherapy through an extension of the same programme, due to be finished in 2026.
Aside from my psychotherapy work, I currently organize and run Liberate Mental Health, an international community focused on liberation praxis within and without the 'mental health' sector.
I can offer online or phone sessions through whichever format works best for you.
Platforms - I generally use Jitsi Meet for video calls, as it is private, secure, and usable across most devices. We can also use Signal for video or audio calls.
Confidentiality - Please make sure to have a quiet and private room or space where we can have the session undisturbed.
Technical issues - Should any tech issues arise during our call, we can agree on a way to continue the session elsewhere or another time.
Sound - Audio quality makes a big difference in the feeling of each session. I would highly recommend a decent pair of sound-blocking earphones for our calls. If you want an affordable set, I would recommend this list.
I am in the process of securing an in-person space in Edinburgh. In the meantime, I can offer sessions online or via nature walks (weather permitting).
If you are based in Edinburgh, we can choose to hold sessions outdoors, either regularly or on occasion. We will pick an agreed upon place to meet, and walk or sit somewhere that feels safe and contained. I generally ask that we have at least one online session first before meeting outdoors.
A few considerations to keep in mind:
Weather - dress appropriately: rainjacket, wellies, umbrella, etc. Should the weather be severe, we would divert to an online session instead.
Confidentiality - we should pick a place that feels secluded, uncrowded, or private enough to speak confidentially. Time of day is important to consider.
Encountering others - should we run into someone either of us know, we can agree on a way to acknowledge them while maintaining confidentiality.
My standard rate is £60 per 50-minute session. If this is currently unaffordable for you, I have a limited number of concessionary slots I can offer. Please feel free to inquire.
Payment: I ask that you pay for sessions ahead of their start time via bank transfer or Wise.
Cancellations: I can offer a degree of schedule flexibility - should you need to cancel a session, we can reschedule for a nearby day or time.
Vacations and breaks: Should you have an upcoming planned vacation or break, please let me know in as much advance as possible. I will do the same.
